Arxx and their Queer Power-Pop Energy on the “Forever Young” Tour
BY NINA MUSUMECI
On October 18th, 2024, queer power-pop duo ARXX hit the stage at Strom in Munich as part of their "Forever Young" Tour. The intimate venue was packed with an enthusiastic, mostly LGBTQ+ crowd ready for a night of music and celebration with band members, Hanni and Clara.
From the moment the doors opened, the energy in the venue was palpable. Fans of all ages, from teens with their parents to couples and groups of friends, engaged fully with the show. Lener, the opening act, set the stage with her indie tunes and some well known German songs, getting the crowd warmed up for the main event. Once ARXX hit the stage, they delivered an electrifying setlist, showcasing tracks from their newest album, "Good Boy", which released on October 4th. The band even threw inflatable dalmatians into the crowd during the performance of the title track, adding a playful and unforgettable touch. Another standout moment came when they translated the chorus of their song “Crying in the Car Wash” into German, a tradition started during their last visit to germany.
ARXX's lead singer, Hanni, energised the audience by sprinkling in German phrases throughout the night, with the playful shout of "Auf geht’s, lesbians!" (Translating to the phrase “Let’s go lesbians”) becoming a highlight of the night. The band’s humour and warmth were met with equal devotion from the audience. A fan who had attended a show during their last time in Germany, while the band was opening for Fletcher's “In Search of the Antidote” Tour, brought a sign referencing a previous interaction, which Hanni and drummer Clara quickly and excitedly acknowledged, showing their close connection to their fans.
Musically, the performance was dynamic and engaging. Hanni’s powerful vocals, paired with their guitar and keyboard skills, meshed perfectly with Clara’s high-energy drumming. Together, they created an electric atmosphere that ranged from upbeat anthems to emotionally charged moments. One of the night’s most moving highlights was the dedication of their song “Swim" to the non-binary and trans audience members, reinforcing the inclusive, empowering and safe space ARXX’s shows offer.
ARXX kept the crowd engaged throughout the night, interacting between themselves and with individuals in the crowd, making the entire night feel personal. This concert was a shared experience between band and audience - with it being evident that it was a great time for everyone involved.
The “Forever Young” Tour continues through November 23rd, 2024, and ARXX’s blend of raw energy, queer joy, and heartfelt connection is sure to captivate fans across Europe. Their music offers a vital space for queer and trans representation, with themes of self-discovery and mental health, making their performances as powerful as they are fun.
