Aurora Lights Up NYC

BY MICHELLE SALGADO

I first saw Aurora perform in 2016 at Bowery Ballroom, so seeing her take the stage for night one of two sold-out shows at New York City’s historic Beacon Theatre felt like a moment I always knew was destined to happen. The whimsical Norwegian singer has been on repeat in my life since a friend first introduced me to her music over 8 years ago. Something about her carefully constructed songs and her layered lyrics stirred something inside me from the very first note.

Aurora’s music, much like her, carries a distinct quirkiness and depth that I believe has finally found its true audience. Newer fans have connected with the messages woven into her lyrics, discovering a sense of relatability and a shared passion for the issues Aurora passionately addresses in her songs. Aurora’s passion is undeniable when she is performing, it exudes through her every moment on stage. The creativity in every choice she makes—from the arrangement of her band and backup singers to the lighting and her enchanting dances—creates a mesmerizing atmosphere that amplifies her powerful presence. Each detail feels intentional, drawing the audience deeper into the experience. Songs like “The Seed,” “Queendom,” and the newer “Starvation” evoked an infectious energy, as fans sang along fervently.

What impressed me most was that, despite this venue being more than four times the size of the first place I saw her perform, she still radiated the same energy and light as she did all those years ago. I can’t wait to see where she ends up next, because if I’m sure of one thing it’s that she will still be the same otherworldly, powerful, and talented Aurora that I first saw.
