Rocking It Solo: Bradley Simpson Thrills Fans in Shoreditch
BY NADINE GOETZ
On November 18th, Bradley Simpson, lead singer of the indie pop band The Vamps, took the stage at Village Underground in Shoreditch, London for the first of his three shows at the venue. The small intimate venue proved ideal, creating a warm and electric atmosphere, despite the rainy weather outside. The opening act Soft Launch showcased their versatile skills by effortlessly swapping instruments between songs and warmed up the crowd for Bradley’s performance.
Simpson addressed the audience during the concert, expressing his gratitude for their support and uncertainty about how fans would react to his solo material, which he described as quite different from his band’s sound. Despite his shift from the indie pop sound of The Vamps to a more distinctly indie rock sound in his solo work, it was clear that his fans were embracing the change. He was joined on stage by a drummer and a guitarist. Throughout the set, Simpson was very energetic and dynamic, moving around a lot on stage and engaging with the crowd. Fans kept singing loudly, jumping, and dancing along to the songs such as his latest release “Holy Grail,” or songs from his EP such as “Cry At The Moon.” Additionally, he covered “Hot To Go” by Chappell Roan and Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams,” both of which received resounding applause.
The night ended on a high note as he performed his most streamed solo track, “Picasso,” from his debut solo album, The Panic Years, which will be released in February next year. Bradley’s charismatic stage presence and engaging set, coupled with the venue’s intimate atmosphere, made for a memorable night of music, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his upcoming debut solo album.
