Chromeo Electrifies The Warfield
BY VIVIANA MENDOZA
If you happened to be at the Warfield on Wednesday Night, then you were able to experience the indescribable vibes that The Chrome Nights Tour brought to San Francisco.
American singer songwriter, Ruth Radelet - best known for her work as the lead vocalist of the electronic band, Chromatics - warmed up the crowd with a blend of shoe-gaze, guitar, and synth. The crowd swayed to her music and enjoyed the calm before the storm that was to come. Radelet’s voice melted in fans’ ears, the soft guitar filled the room, and the excitement grew.
Next – The Midnight came on and blared their signature saxophone, chill wave, 80s throwback set and had the audience going crazy. Their saxophonist, Justin Klunk, joined the crowd to close out the set, even initiating a saxophone showdown in the audience with one of the several inflatable saxophones that graced the crowd. He swaggered through the room and everyone stood in awe of his talent.
This all led to – Chromeo – playing an abbreviated but hit-filled set with energy that set the place ablaze. The set started off strong with one of their biggest and most well known hits, “Fancy Footwork.” The strobes were strong, the vibes were high - I’ve never seen such a lively crowd fill The Warfield. The balcony shook as everyone danced to other hits like “Over Your Shoulders”, “Old 45’s”, and “Bonafied Lovin.” Their set was the perfect amalgamation of their discography even though, to everyone’s surprise, they only performed 15 songs.
I don’t think I’ve been to a show with such a perfect line up in a long time. The way that Ruth Radelet, The Midnight and Chromeo complimented each other was truly amazing.
