Houndmouth in Asbury Park
BY MADDI WHITING
On November 8th, alternative rock blues band Houndmouth took to the iconic Stone Pony stage in Asbury Park, New Jersey and were met with nothing shy of a packed house. [I’ve never seen the Stone Pony so full.] In an era of folk resurgence, Houndmouth adds to the legacy of contemporaries like Mt. Joy, Caamp, and The Head and the Heart, delivering classic Americana with a vibrant, raucous energy. The four-member band from Indiana has been playing music together since 2011 and has garnered an audience that spans demographics, with fans of varying backgrounds showing out at the pony. Following the release of their most recent album, “Good For You,” in 2021, I first discovered Houndmoth when they opened for acclaimed rock band, Greta Van Fleet, on their 2022 Dreams in Gold Tour. I was instantly captured by the band’s charisma and vibrant stage presence, and while the band’s roster has undergone some changes since then, they still delivered a dynamic set that has the crowd singing and rocking all night.
The evening’s set highlighted tracks off of “Good For You” weaving in classics from “Little Neon Limelight” and hits like “Miracle Mile,” “Darlin’” and fan-favorite, “Sedona,” which they ended the night with. With a cool, casual presence that draws people in coupled with outbursts of boisterous energy, the band’s live shows create an atmosphere that is the perfect blend of comfortable and lively.
This night in Asbury Park, English alternative rock band, Sports Team, opened the show.
