Jake Bugg: A Modern Day Distraction at the Roundhouse
BY NADINE GOETZ
On November 19th, the Roundhouse in Camden was the scene of a lively evening of music. STONE, an indie rock band from Liverpool, opened the show and brought the crowd to life. The venue was already quite packed when they took the stage at 8 pm. Indie-rock singer-songwriter Jake Bugg kicked off his set with the song “Zombieland,” the debut single from his latest album A Modern Day Distraction, released the previous month. He was joined on stage by drummer Jack Atherton and bassist Tom ‘Robbo’ Robertson.
Despite his simple, laid-back stage presence, Bugg held the crowd’s attention with his music. The one-and-a-half-hour set featured a mix of both old and new songs, ranging from slow to fast-paced songs. During the second half of the show, the atmosphere became particularly energized, as the setlist featured a lot of popular songs that the fans were all too eager to sing along to such as “Lightning Bolt” and “Two Fingers.” At this point, fans were sitting on each other’s shoulders, singing along and enjoying the lively atmosphere. Bugg performing his song “Broken” without his band was undeniably a standout moment of the evening. The audience seemed drawn to the emotional and heartfelt love song which showcased the raw emotion of Bugg’s music, leaving a lasting impression.
He ended his set with a performance of “All I Need” from his 2021 released album Saturday Night, Sunday Morning. Overall, the concert showcased the power of live music and the importance of the audience at concerts.
