Marianas Trench Rocks Silver Spring

BY MADDI WHITING

On September 24th, Canadian pop rock band Marianas Trench brought The Force of Nature Tour to The Fillmore in Silver Spring, MD. Met with a packed house, the tour marks the band’s first US tour in “approximately… 5 years. 5 years… holy shit!” - Josh Ramsay. It’s safe to say that fans were thrilled by their return, applause and cheers overwhelming the room as the singer recalled their touring timeline.

The band, hailing from Vancouver, Canada, is comprised of frontman and lead vocalist, Josh Ramsay alongside Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass guitar), and Ian Casselman (drums). The group has been making music together for over 2 decades with their current tour celebrating their most recent release, “Haven.” With this, Marianas Trench’s set consisted of tracks off of the album kicking off the evening with “A Normal Life,” “Lightning and Thunder,” and “I’m Not Getting Better” before swiftly transitioning into some of their biggest hits and fan favorites. The crowd sang along eagerly and enthusiastically as the upbeat rhythms of “Desperate Measures,” “Here’s to the Zeros,” and “Stutter” reverberated off the walls. In a moment of spontaneity, Ramsay vanished from the stage only to appear in the upper balcony moments later, connecting with fans and teaching them the ways of “Pop 101.” This burst of energy in the middle of the band’s set propelled the evening forward, turning the pit into a dance floor as Ramsay leaned over the barricade before making his way back to stage.

This show exuded pop rock nostalgia with the band showcasing why they’ve earned their rightful place in the genre, even if we haven’t seen them in a while. “Haven” marks Marianas Trench’s sixth studio album and they show no sign of slowing down anytime soon. The show featured opener Cassadee Pope who had the audience captivated with her powerhouse set. The Force of Nature Tour continues as Marianas Trench makes their way through their home country of Canada through the end of the year.
