The Pure Noise Records Tour Stops in Milwaukee

BY CARRIE BERGAN

This past weekend the Pure Noise Records Tour stopped at Turner Hall in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was a busy night in the city as Fiserv Forum was hosting Sugarland & Little Big Town right across the street(!) Though, parking was a lot easier than my husband and I expected. The evening’s lineup was stacked from start to finish. Personally, I was especially looking forward to seeing one of the openers as it was going to be their first time in Milwaukee and fans have been waiting for them to finally make their way up here. It was my first time at Turner Hall so I was also super excited to see what the venue looked like inside. It was very pretty. I really appreciated the string lights that were strung across the ceiling which made the venue feel cozy. I also always love seeing a disco ball in front of the stage. When the lights hit it just right, beautiful.

The first opener was post-emo and “butt rock” band, Ben Quad. I just saw them earlier this year during Burn Bright MKE Fest so I was ecstatic to see them again so soon. They got the crowd warmed up and moshing to the music ready for a night of fun. The band recently signed onto Pure Noise so getting to see their growth this year has been awesome. I ‘stan’ for the smaller bands and I’m sure most of the fans who didn’t know who they were left a major fan.

American funk rock band Just Friends were on next. Admittedly, they were the band I was most excited to see. They truly know how to bring the party. (The wildest thing happened to me during their set and is definitely a first. Sammy, the front man in the group, pulled out a disposable camera during their third song and took my picture! I did find him later and he told me he’s planning to get the roll developed so I cannot wait to see how goofy I look in it, haha.)

Prince Daddy & The Hyena were the final opener of the night, the last hurrah before Microwave took the stage. They bought great energy and you know they’re a pretty big deal since they sold out a show within minutes at a smaller capacity venue. I hope to see them again in the future. My favorite part of their set… during one song, some of Just Friends jumped into the crowd on a flatbed and surfed around the circle. It was truly unexpected and I love the energy it created.

Finally, it was time for Microwave to perform. Their set dressing was super cool; they had these neon glowing mushrooms which illuminated the stage and gave the set a fun, mystical glow. The band played a great set. After leaving the venue, I wish I could have replayed the night and gone to their show in Joliet but alas. So, if you haven’t secured a ticket to the nearest city, you should. Do not sleep on this tour; it’s 100% a perfect lineup. There is still time for some of you, so go and buy that ticket!

All the bands have social media, keep up with them for future news!
