We’re Surely Watching,

are you?

BY JULIETTE GONGORA

The K-indie artist, Min.a, brightened up the stage at Berlin on a stormy New York City Friday, luring all the rain and dark clouds away by the end of the night. Opening up for French singer-songwriter, Laurie Darmon, Min.a delivered an intimate, and heart-warming  show. Starting off her set with her debut song, titled “by(e)”, Min.a captured the audience with her profound lyrics and stunning vocals. Her strong lyrics and ability to transform universal feelings into compelling, personal songs united everyone in the room.

With the release of her third EP, are you watching at all?, she performed songs such as, “wish you well”, “you don’t get to say it first”, and “skipping stones”, her first K-pop song! Min.a shared her struggles with writing a song with the majority of it in Korean, and dwelled on the challenges of expressing yourself in ways that may not translate into another language. Min.a kept the crowd hooked with her raw and vulnerable stories to accompany each song. Truly letting us in on what kind of place she was in when composing this record. Min.a also explained the significance of the song “wish you well” where she brought out her guitar, revealing that she has only played it live only a few times before. For any beginner guitar players, myself included, it’s always a little nerve wracking playing in front of others. Rest assured, Min.a killed it and I’m excited to hear more songs of hers on guitar and live band!

For fans of artists such as Arlo Parks, Carol Ades, and Juliet Ivy, Min.a should absolutely be on your radar and we can’t wait for future releases showcasing her candid lyricism, beautiful melodic lines, and lo-fi, indie productions.

Min.a’s EP “are you watching at all?” is available now on all streaming services.
