The Amazons Take on London

BY BETH PHASEY-MANCLARK

On the 16th of July 2024, fans congregated at the historic Somerset House in London to witness a vibrant performance from Reading-based Rock band, The Amazons.

Opening the show was Yonaka - a 3 piece Rock band from Brighton who previously toured with Bring Me the Horizon and Fever 333. Yonaka started the evening with a bang and owned the stage the second they set foot on it. I saw three songs of their electric set and this was enough to tell me what a refreshing and talented live rock band they are. Each member of the band bounced off of each other and their individual sounds and energies melded superbly. Yonaka are definitely ones to look out for.

The Amazons’ set began at 9pm and they instantly captured the audience with their effervescent stage presence. The boys kicked off the night with fan favourite - “Ready for Something” - which skyrocketed the energy, encouraging a sea of raised arms. Although I only got to witness 3 songs on this occasion, the energy was immaculate from the get go, and I couldn’t help but to stop photographing for moments to take it all in. I can also vouch for The Amazons delivering a phenomenal set from start to finish, after having seen them live a couple of times previously.

The energy of the band, the warmth of the evening sun, and the beauty of this picturesque venue, all made for a spectacular evening - and a show to remember. The Amazons’ exquisite performance at Somerset House has definitely made me want to return to future shows of theirs. The band released an exciting statement saying that this show would be “the perfect night to celebrate with our fans how far we’ve come and to reveal where we’re taking them next”. It seems we can look forward to some new music on the horizon!
